Nigerian singer Speed Darlington, whose real name is Darlington Okoye, has publicly maintained that his recent video, where he claimed to have slept with a 15-year-old virgin, was nothing more than a joke made for entertainment. The video sparked significant controversy, leading to an intervention from the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
In a statement released on his social media today, June 2nd, Speed Darlington addressed the Director General of NAPTIP, asserting his innocence. He emphasized that he is a law-abiding citizen and has never engaged in or contemplated any form of s#xual predation. He further explained that the video was simply intended for entertainment but has been "blown out of proportion."
While NAPTIP had requested him to report to their National Headquarters today, June 2nd, Speed Darlington stated he would only be available to provide further clarity on June 26th. His statement aims to dispel the serious allegations that arose from the viral video.
