NiMet Forecasts Thunderstorms and Rains Across Nigeria from June 2-4

 Nigeria is set to experience a period of widespread wet weather as the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted thunderstorms and rains across the country from Monday, June 2, to Wednesday, June 4.

According to NiMet's latest weather outlook released in Abuja, Monday morning will see thunderstorms and rains impacting parts of Taraba, Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Kebbi, Sokoto, Katsina, Jigawa, and Kano States in the northern region. These conditions are expected to continue into the afternoon and evening over areas like Taraba, Kaduna, Sokoto, Borno, Kebbi, and Zamfara States. Further south, the agency anticipates rain showers over parts of Oyo, Ekiti, Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Lagos, Edo, Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, Enugu, Anambra, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, Delta, and Bayelsa later in the day. The North-central region, including parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Kogi, Niger, Kwara, and Plateau, is also expected to experience thunderstorms with rains later in the day. Morning hours in the southern region will see thunderstorms over parts of Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Ebonyi, Abia, Cross River, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom.

Looking ahead to Tuesday, the northern region can expect morning thunderstorms with rains over parts of Kano, Zamfara, Katsina, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, Borno, Yobe, and Taraba, with these conditions extending into the afternoon or evening across Taraba, Kebbi, Borno, Gombe, Adamawa, Kaduna, Bauchi, and Katsina States. In the North-central, morning thunderstorms and rains are predicted for parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, and Nasarawa, extending into the afternoon or evening over parts of Plateau, the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi, and Benue States. The southern region on Tuesday morning will likely experience rains over parts of Ogun, Ondo, Oyo, Edo, Enugu, Ebonyi, Cross River, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom, with rain showers expected later in the day over Oyo, Ekiti, Osun, Ogun, Lagos, Edo, Anambra, Abia, Enugu, Imo, Ebonyi, Cross River, Rivers, Delta, and Bayelsa.

For Wednesday, NiMet forecasts morning thunderstorms with rains over parts of Zamfara, Adamawa, Kaduna, Sokoto, Kebbi, and Taraba in the northern region, with thunderstorms and rains expected later in the afternoon or evening over Taraba, Kaduna, Katsina, Bauchi, Zamfara, Sokoto, and Adamawa, and general rain expected across the entire northern region.

NiMet has issued a crucial advisory, warning that strong winds may precede the rains in areas prone to thunderstorms, urging the public to take adequate precautions. This includes securing loose objects to prevent collisions and avoiding driving under heavy rain. Additionally, the agency advises disconnecting electrical appliances from sockets and staying away from tall trees to avoid the impact of falling branches and broken trees.
