Rotimi Amaechi, the former Minister of Transportation, recently marked his 60th birthday in Abuja with a revealing disclosure: he would have pursued certain policies currently championed by President Bola Tinubu had he been at the helm of the nation.

However, his endorsement came with a stinging critique, as he lamented that the benefits of these very policies, under the current administration, appear to be siphoned into private hands. Speaking frankly, the former Rivers State governor opined that Nigerian politicians are primarily preoccupied with the distribution of the nation's wealth, rather than fostering capitalist ideals. He emphasized that this scarcity of genuine capitalist thought among the political class fuels the relentless infighting over resource allocation. Amaechi urged the opposition to prioritize national interest, suggesting that only through such unity could Nigeria navigate its present challenges.

He specifically highlighted the colossal sums previously expended on fuel subsidies, questioning the current whereabouts of those funds and positing that their proper reinvestment into the economy would alleviate the current widespread economic hardship.
