The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, has moved to quell widespread speculation regarding the cancellation of the English Language examination conducted on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, as part of the ongoing WASSCE for School Candidates.

A purported press release circulating on various social media platforms, dated Friday, May 30, 2025, had claimed the exam was cancelled and a new date would be announced. However, Moyosola Adesina, the Acting Head of Public Affairs for WAEC, issued a statement on Tuesday, June 2, unequivocally refuting these claims.

Adesina confirmed that the circulating press release did not originate from the Council and that the English Language examination has not been cancelled. WAEC attributes these false reports to "mischief-makers" aiming to discredit the organization and create confusion among candidates. The Council emphasized that official information is disseminated through its verified social media channels and accredited media platforms, with all legitimate press releases issued and signed by the Public Affairs Department on behalf of the Head of National Office. WAEC also reiterated its seventy-three-year commitment to conducting examinations and providing quality services to Nigerian students.
