Tanko, speaking on Channels Television's "Morning Brief" on Wednesday, critically assessed the government's performance since its 2023 inauguration, contending that the economic realities faced by average Nigerians — particularly the stark difference in household purchasing power compared to pre-2023 — serve as undeniable proof of the nation's dwindling fortunes. He specifically highlighted a 34 percent inflation rate as a key indicator of the economic hardship.
Tanko's central grievance revolved around what he perceived as a lack of transparency from the government, emphasizing that the continued "backdoor" payment of fuel subsidies, after a definitive pronouncement by President Tinubu himself regarding their removal, represents a significant breach of trust with the Nigerian populace.
