Liverpool has officially bolstered its squad with the acquisition of highly-rated right wing-back Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen. The Reds activated his £29.5 million release clause, making him their first summer signing. Frimpong has committed to a five-year deal at Anfield, having successfully completed his medical examination earlier this month. He is set to step into the role previously held by Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is making a move to Real Madrid.
In a statement released on the club's website, Frimpong expressed his eagerness to join the Merseyside club. "It went quite easy. Liverpool came and said they had interest, and obviously for me it was a no-brainer," he shared. He further added, "For me, it was like, 'Whatever you guys do, just get this done', [speaking to] my agents: ‘Just get this done.’"
Addressing the Liverpool faithful, the 12-time Dutch international promised dedication and energy: "Liverpool fans, I’m going to give my all, my energy, my work-rate and hopefully we can win together, we celebrate together, get everything together. I’m just excited to be here. Thank you guys for accepting me and I won’t let you guys down and I’ll give you the energy that you guys want." Frimpong's move to Liverpool will see him reunite with his familiar countryman and new manager, Arne Slot, as well as his international teammates Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, and Ryan Gravenberch, creating a strong Dutch contingent at the club.
