The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has officially issued a summons for Mr. Darlington Okoye, widely known as the controversial singer Speed Darlington, in response to serious allegations of sexual misconduct involving a minor.
The controversy ignited during an Instagram Live session where Speed Darlington purportedly claimed to have engaged in a sexual act with a 15-year-old girl, sparking immediate and widespread public outrage, as reported by Punch Metro. The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency subsequently brought the matter to NAPTIP's attention, urging a comprehensive investigation into these disturbing claims.
In the wake of the significant backlash, Speed Darlington released a follow-up video, attempting to clarify his earlier statements by asserting they were merely intended to promote a new song. He also issued an apology, expressing regret for any offense or discomfort his remarks may have caused.
Despite his apology and explanation, NAPTIP confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday that it has formally summoned Speed Darlington for questioning. The agency also conveyed a stern warning, indicating that further action will be taken if he fails to comply with the summons.
