In a significant political realignment within Ebonyi State, Hon. Chukwuma Nwazunku, a former Speaker of the State House of Assembly and immediate past Federal House of Representatives member for Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency, has officially decamped from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the dominant All Progressives Congress (APC). The formal declaration took place at the Echiaba Ward meeting in Ugwuachara, held at the residence of the Ward Chairman, Hon. Amobi Nwofoke.
Nwazunku's defection marks a considerable gain for the APC, as he was joined by a retinue of other prominent PDP figures, including Hon. Emeka Otozi, the PDP's 2023 Senatorial Candidate for Ebonyi North, the Echiaba Ward Chairman, and a host of political associates. Chief Patrick Orogbo, the APC Chairman in Ebonyi Local Government Area, extended a warm welcome to the new members on behalf of the State Chairman, commending their "courageous and strategic decision." He further assured them of equitable opportunities and full inclusion within the APC, emphasizing the party's commitment to internal democracy, transparency, and inclusiveness for all, regardless of their past political affiliations.
In his address, Hon. Amobi Nwofoke lauded the impactful two-year tenure of the Ebonyi State Governor, noting that his remarkable developmental achievements have considerably weakened the opposition, steadily steering Ebonyi towards a unified political landscape.
Speaking after his official defection, Chief Nwazunku revealed that while he had physically remained with the PDP, his spirit had long since distanced itself from the party due to its waning internal coherence and relevance. He explicitly stated that his move to the APC was directly inspired by the "remarkable accomplishments" of Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru, as well as the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the national level. Looking ahead, Nwazunku pledged to galvanize his supporters across the state, aiming to ensure the resounding success of the APC, particularly in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
