In a significant move to bolster Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) across the nation, the Federal Government of Nigeria has announced a comprehensive free education package for students in both federal and state technical colleges. This groundbreaking initiative, aimed at attracting and retaining young Nigerians in skills-based learning, was unveiled by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, during the launch of the TVET programme in Abuja on Friday, May 30, 2025.
The generous package extends beyond just free tuition, encompassing accommodation, feeding, and even a monthly stipend of N22,500 for each enrolled student. Dr. Alausa clarified that this strategic investment is designed to incentivize young people to embrace TVET, equipping them with the practical and relevant skills essential for becoming productive members of society and contributing to the nation's economic growth. This bold step underscores the government's commitment to bridging the skills gap and empowering a new generation of skilled workers in Nigeria.
