Court Freeze Abia Politician and Ex-Governor Aide Properties Worth Millions Over Alleged N28 Billion Money Laundering Case

The Federal High Court for Abuja don give order say make dem seize temporarily three properties wey belong to Mr. Erondu Erondu, who dey represent one part of Abia State for the House of Assembly and also dey work as aide to the former governor of the state, Onyechi Ikpeazu. The court take this decision because EFCC, the people wey dey catch people wey do bad things with money, tell them say dem dey suspect Mr. Erondu do money laundering worth about N28 billion.


Justice Emeka Nwite, the judge wey hear the case, give this order after the lawyer for EFCC, C.O. Onu, ask the court to do am sharp sharp without even calling Mr. Erondu to court first.


The judge say make EFCC put notice about this order for Daily Trust Newspaper and also for their own website. This notice go tell anybody wey get interest in those properties to come forward within 14 days from the day dem put the notice. Dem need to come explain to the court why dem no go give the Federal Government those properties for good.


Justice Nwite talk say e don listen to wetin the EFCC lawyer talk and e don see all the evidence dem bring, including papers and things. He say for him own understanding, the request wey EFCC make make sense.


So, the judge agree with EFCC and grant their request. He say dem go come back to court on May 26, 2025, to hear how far EFCC don go with following the order.


The properties wey the court say make dem hold for now include:

 * One four-bedroom bungalow wey dey Plot 6/31, Ukaegbu Layout, Umuahia North Local Government Area, Abia State. Dem say this house worth about N409 million.

 * Another three-bedroom bungalow wey dey the same address as the first one, and dem say this one worth about N300 million.

 * One big five-bedroom bungalow wey dey Guzape area of Abuja, and dem value this one at about N500 million.

EFCC bin go court on April 10 and file their request on April 16. Dem ask the court to give two orders: first, make dem seize these properties temporarily for the Federal Government while dem continue their investigation and maybe carry the person go court later.


The commission say the reason for this action na because dem dey investigate Mr. Erondu for things like conspiracy to do bad things with money, using his office to do anyhow things, moving government money anyhow, and washing money wey reach over N28 billion.


Inside the paper wey EFCC put for court, one of their staff, Samson Oloje, swear say dem get information about this alleged fraud wey involve conspiracy, abuse of office, moving government money anyhow, and money laundering wey reach over N28 billion.


Oloje say dem dey investigate these houses and properties because dem believe say na from bad money, crime, abuse of office, moving government money anyhow, illegal transfer of money, conspiracy, pretending to be who you no be, and money laundering dem take buy am. He even attach statements from people wey know about the business and transactions wey connect to this case as evidence.


Oloje conclude say e go be the right thing to do if the court grant their request to seize the properties temporarily. He say this go help keep the properties safe until dem finish their investigation, and anybody wey get something to say about the properties can come forward to explain why dem no go give the properties to the Federal Government for good.
