The head oga of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, don talk small about how those terrorist groups manage to get money to continue their bad things for more than ten years for this country.
Olukoyede talk this thing when he dey give lecture to some big people wey dey learn about security for National Institute for Security Studies, Abuja.
For the paper wey he present, wey the title be “Violent Non-State Actors in Security Management: Issues, Challenges and Prospects for Peace and Development in Africa: EFCC Perspective”, Olukoyede warn say all those bad groups like insurgents, bandits, kidnappers, people wey want break away from Nigeria, and cybercriminals, dey cause big problem for Nigeria. He say dem dey threaten our land, our government stability, our economy, and how we dey live together.
The EFCC boss, through the Director of Public Affairs, Commander of the EFCC, CE Wilson Uwujaren, talk say the things wey these groups dey do don cause plenty people die, dem destroy government things, and dem cause big money loss, food price to go up, and people for village to run away from their house.
Olukoyede also talk about how EFCC don catch and jail some army officers wey thief money wey suppose use fight these bad people. He say that na part of how EFCC dey help make sure things dey clear and people dey held accountable.
He stress say because these terrorist groups don dey do their thing for more than ten years, e show say dem get strong money network and connection with people outside Nigeria. He also say the way small guns dey scatter everywhere get strong connection with money laundering and how illegal money dey flow.
He say, “Some of the terrorist groups for Nigeria don survive for more than ten years, and that show say dem manage to get steady money from outside Nigeria money system.”
The EFCC Chairman talk about some problems wey EFCC dey face for their work. He mention say the way different government agencies dey work together no too good, plenty people still dey use cash for transaction, some rules for phone companies no strong, and some banks and fintech companies no dey follow the rule to know their customers well well (KYC).
Even with all these problems, Olukoyede say he believe say Nigeria go win against these bad groups through everybody for the country working together, different agencies helping each other, and government doing better.
He say bad money things, government problem, and people no dey held accountable well well na some of the things wey dey help these bad groups do their work for Nigeria, and e dey cause big problem for our security and economy.
According to him, “To say say the things wey these bad groups dey do don scatter our security plan and spoil our economy, government and how we dey live together, na true talk.”
The EFCC boss say even though the army and other security people dey try to fight them physically, the things wey no involve fighting, especially watching and controlling money, dey important to cut off the money wey these bad people dey use.
He talk about how EFCC dey work through their Special Control Unit against Money Laundering (SCUML), how dem dey control non-government organizations wey dey work for areas with problem, and how dem dey watch money movement for both old and new ways of payment, including virtual money.
He say, “The Commission also make sure say dem dey watch transactions well well for some business wey no be bank, especially people wey dey change money (bureau de change), and the way virtual money, especially crypto, become popular for international transaction because e dey hide person identity, and that one dey sweet the bad groups.”
For the closing talk, the Director of Studies for the National Institute of Security Studies, Mr. Hyginus Ngele, thank the EFCC Chairman for the deep talk, and say he hope say the Chairman go continue to come for future talks with security professionals.
He tell the people wey dey learn for the course say make dem learn well from the lecture and make dem do well when dem become leaders.
The lecture na one of the things wey dem plan to prepare the people wey dey learn for important roles for national security and intelligence work.
